Your library
A library, not a folder of downloads
Drop a file in and TomoMark files it: what it is, who wrote it, when, and where it appeared. Papers get the deepest treatment, but nothing here is a "paper mode" you have to switch on.
It reads the title page for you
Title, author, year, source and DOI are lifted out of the file itself and shown with ⌘I. Anything it gets wrong you can type over, and your version always wins.
Journal details, filled in
For anything with a DOI, TomoMark annotates the source with the full journal name, publisher, ISSN and open citation counts from Crossref and OpenAlex. Bring your own easyScholar key for official rankings.
Find it four ways
Search runs across the title, the author, the file name and the source at once. Add your own categories, star what matters, and filter down to what needs attention.
Browse without the mouse
Arrow through the grid or the list, press Space for Quick Look, and open with Return. Sort by six fields in either direction, in whichever layout you prefer.

Translation

Most tools hand back a wall of text and lose the figure captions, the two columns and the tables. TomoMark analyzes the layout, translates paragraph by paragraph, then sets the translation back into the space the original occupied.
Layout preserved, not approximated
Columns, headings, tables, captions and figures stay where the author put them. Each translated paragraph is typeset to fit the box it replaces, so the page still reads like the page.
Three ways to read
Original, side by side, or translation only, switched at any time. The two panes scroll together, so you never lose your place while checking a sentence against the source.
Fix one paragraph, not the file
Something off? Retranslate that paragraph, try another engine, or edit the text yourself. Corrections are yours to keep, and the rest of the document is untouched.
Export what you actually need
A translated PDF that keeps the original layout, a bilingual PDF with alternating or facing pages, or page images as PNG or JPEG. Your original file is exported untouched whenever you want it back.
Your terms, your way
Build a glossary of terms with the translation you want and an optional note, matched automatically, on whole words, or anywhere in the text. Every engine honors it.
A stack at a time
Queue several documents and let them run while you read something else. Progress is written as it goes, so an interrupted run picks up where it stopped instead of starting over.

Everything else a second language needs
Reading in a language that is not your first takes more than a translation. TomoMark puts the rest of it one gesture away, without a second app or a browser tab.
AI summary
An overview and the key points of the document, written in the language you are reading in. A tab in the structure panel, not a separate errand.
Seven dictionaries
Select a word and get definitions from macOS’s own dictionary, Free Dictionary, Wiktionary, Youdao, Merriam-Webster, the offline ECDICT, or an AI model. Enable as many as you like, in your own order.
Four encyclopedias
Names, places and terms get the bigger picture from Wikipedia, Wikidata, Moegirlpedia and Baidu Baike, right beside the paragraph you are on.
A wordbook that leaves
Save a word with its reading, part of speech, definition and the sentence you met it in. Export the lot to CSV, or straight to an Anki deck.
Scans and images too
Pages with no text layer are recognized on-device with Apple’s Vision, so a scanned PDF or a photographed page reads and translates like any other document.
Highlights and notes
Mark up what matters as you read. Highlights and annotations live with the document in your library, not in a copy you have to keep track of.

Privacy
Your documents stay on your Mac
No account, no backend, nothing collected. Your documents are files in a folder you chose, and they stay there.
On-device by default
Out of the box, translation runs on your Mac through Apple’s translation framework, or Apple Intelligence on macOS 26. Your documents can be read, translated and exported with the network off.
Asked once, before the first byte
Turning on a cloud engine tells you exactly where text will go and asks you to agree first. Any destination you enabled can be revoked later, all at once or one at a time.
Your keys, direct connections
API keys live in the macOS Keychain and authenticate only the engine they belong to. Requests go straight from your Mac to that provider, so there is no server of ours in the path.
Sandboxed, zero dependencies
Always runs in the App Sandbox and uses only Apple system frameworks. No analytics, no crash reporters, no third-party SDKs, nothing to opt out of.
